Job Description Position OverviewThe MYP / MRC General Science Teacher delivers high-quality, engaging science instruction across the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the MOET Replacement Curriculum (MRC). The teacher supports students in developing scientific literacy, inquiry skills, critical and creative thinking, and responsible action. As part of Westlink's commitment to excellent teaching and learning, the teacher contributes to collaborative planning, curriculum alignment, and wider school initiatives.
Roles and Responsibilities:Teaching & Learning- Plan and teach general science (integrated or discipline-specific) aligned with the MYP framework.
- Deliver science lessons for the MRC pathway that meet Westlink's standards replacing MOET requirements.
- Use inquiry-based and concept-driven pedagogies to promote curiosity, experimentation, and problem-solving.
- Integrate Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills within daily instruction.
- Design and facilitate laboratory investigations, hands-on activities, and real-world applications of science.
- Differentiate instruction for diverse learners, including multilingual learners and those needing additional support.
- Use formative and summative assessments effectively to monitor understanding and inform instruction.
Curriculum & Assessment- Contribute to the development, review, and alignment of science units across MYP and MRC.
- Create high-quality assessment tasks linked to MYP Science criteria and/or MRC programme standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation of planning, assessment, and reporting.
- Participate in moderation and standardisation processes to ensure reliability and fairness.
- Use assessment data to inform teaching practice and support student progress.
- Student Support & Wellbeing
- Build strong, respectful relationships with students to promote confidence, resilience, and engagement.
- Provide pastoral support as a homeroom/advisory teacher, fostering a caring and inclusive learning environment.
- Offer additional help through tutorials or targeted support for students requiring reinforcement.
- Maintain clear, professional communication with parents regarding student learning and wellbeing.
Professional Responsibilities- Participate fully in IB training, professional learning, and school improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with colleagues across science, mathematics, and interdisciplinary teams to strengthen programme coherence.
- Uphold Westlink's policies, safeguarding commitments, and professional standards.
- Contribute to the shared responsibility of maintaining high expectations for teaching and learning across the school.
Wider School Contributions- Engage in school events, assemblies, celebrations, and community-building activities.
- Lead or support co-curricular activities (CCAs) related to science, STEM, environment, or innovation.
- Support service learning, sustainability initiatives, and activities that promote global citizenship.
- Represent the science and MYP departments during open days, parent meetings, and community outreach.
- Contribute to alignment between MYP, MRC, and future upper secondary science pathways.
Qualifications and ExperienceRequired:- Bachelor's degree in Science, Education, or a related scientific discipline.
- Recognised teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching middle school or secondary science.
- Strong understanding of inquiry-based and concept-driven learning.
Preferred:- Experience in an IB MYP school.
- Ability to teach across multiple science disciplines (biology, chemistry, physics).
- Experience teaching within MOET-based or MOET-adjacent curricula (advantageous for MRC).
- Familiarity with MYP Sciences criteria, investigations, and assessment approaches.
