Support high quality practical science in a busy school laboratory environment, helping pupils learn chemistry safely through hands‑on experimentation.
Wellington College is a dynamic, ambitious and values led community, offering both boarding and day education and fostering collaboration, curiosity and excellence in all that it does. Located in Crowthorne, Berkshire, our 400 acre estate provides a distinctive and inspiring place to work.
We are seeking a Chemistry Technician to join our Science, Technology and Engineering Faculty from September, working 37.5 hours per week for 33 weeks per year. This term‑time role supports the delivery of high quality practical Chemistry across the curriculum and offers a clear structure aligned with the school year. Within a well resourced department, the post contributes directly to pupils’ learning by ensuring laboratories, equipment and materials are safe, organised and ready for effective experimental work.
The Role
Working closely with teaching colleagues and fellow technicians, the Chemistry Technician plays an important part in the smooth day‑to‑day running of the Chemistry Department. The role involves preparing equipment, materials and chemical solutions for lessons, supporting practical activities and demonstrations, and helping to maintain laboratories and preparation areas to a high standard.
You will contribute to safe working practices by following established procedures for chemical handling, storage and disposal, maintaining accurate records and supporting health and safety checks across learning spaces. The role requires good organisation, attention to detail and a proactive approach, along with the ability to work calmly and professionally in a busy laboratory environment.
This position would suit someone who enjoys practical work, values teamwork and takes pride in supporting high quality teaching and learning. Experience in a laboratory or educational setting is welcomed, but enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to learn are equally important.
Working within a large boarding and day school brings opportunities to contribute to the wider community, supporting co‑curricular activities, events and departmental projects that showcase creativity, engineering and design. You will join a collaborative, welcoming team and be encouraged to continue developing professionally, with access to training that supports both departmental needs and your own aspirations.
