Job Description Purpose At Bangkok Prep we believe that all students should be able to achieve their potential. All young people are different and some students will follow an adapted curriculum and/or access services at school (short or long term) to enable them to do their best. In Humanities, all students learn Geography and History In Year 7, 8 and 9. From Year 10 to Year 13, the Humanities faculty offers multiple pathways for students including IGCSE, I/A-Level and BTEC in our subjects, geography, history, psychology, business, economics, PSHE and Travel and Tourism. The Humanities Learning Mentor would usually provide support to students in Humanities lessons. However, learning mentors need to be flexible and may support students in other aspects of their learning and other subject areas too. The role of a Secondary Learning Mentor is to:- Work with our students, staff, parents and carers to ensure that all students at Bangkok Prep can access the curriculum, are supported and challenged and can make good progress.
- Assist the secondary Humanities Faculty in developing resources, lessons and sequences of lessons for students in the secondary school.
- Carry out individual and small group learning sessions with students.
- Work with the Humanities Faculty Leader and Heads of Department to develop the curriculum so that materials and resources for diverse student needs are in place in every aspect of the curriculum. Education must be inclusive, accessible and challenging for all.
- Provide in class support for students as timetabled by the Faculty Leader and Assistant Headteachers.
- When appropriate, plan and deliver learning activities for small groups of students withdrawn from lessons.
- Develop opportunities to celebrate student success and the achievement of our students in humanities lessons and extra / super curricular activities.
- Monitor and communicate students' progress and achievement to students, staff and parents/carers.
- Support the development of the humanities provision at the Secondary school.
- Take an active role in the enrichment opportunities we have for our students such as Residential Trips, competitions and extra curricular activities.
- Take an active role in the careers and futures program.
- Take an active role in preparing students for, and participation in, school events.
- Maintain and develop the quality of the learning environment through leading the care and development of displays, classrooms and other resources.
- To support the induction of students into the school.
- To support the transition of students between schools and sections of the school.
- Contribute to the Humanities Faculty development plans and targets and contribute to the development plans of the School..
Examples of Tasks:- Development of student individual education plans for humanities. This includes input to and communication about targets and deadlines.
- Planning activities and learning for students that allow them to make progress towards their targets.
- Assist students in their classes to access the curriculum and make progress.
- Share strategies, resources and techniques with class teachers so that they can best differentiate for and support our students in lessons.
- Meet regularly with students, staff and parents/carers that you are working with to update on progress and agree next steps to support the child.
- Supervision of lunchtime and after school home learning clubs
- Design and create learning displays.
- Prepare lesson materials.
- Support students, individually or in small groups, with their needs.
- Development of schemes of learning.
- Undertake duties according to the school duty rota and actively supervise students to ensure health and safety and promote positive relationships

Person specification To be an effective Secondary Learning Mentor, the candidate is expected to have, or demonstrate the capacity to develop, skills and attributes in the following key areas deemed necessary for the position: - Building team commitment with colleagues and students.

Line management responsibilities
The Learning Mentor is line managed by our faculty Leader of humanities who will - Work with SLT to create and communicate a balanced timetable for the effective completion of your responsibilities.
- Ensure regular communication between all members of the student success team.
- Manage, monitor and develop staff in the student success team.
- Support and improve teaching and learning within the Humanities curriculum.

The duties and responsibilities of this post may vary from time to time according to the changing demands of the school. This job description may be reviewed at the reasonable discretion of the Head of Secondary and in consultation with the post holder. The performance of the Secondary Learning Mentor in this key responsibility is formatively reviewed over the year as part of the school's appraisal process.
