Role Overview
Arco Academy is seeking a passionate and resilient English Teacher to deliver high-quality, engaging learning experiences to students aged 11–16, including GCSE level.
This role is ideal for an educator who is committed to supporting students with diverse and complex needs, and who thrives in an alternative provision setting where relationships, consistency, and creativity are key.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
· Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated English lessons aligned with KS3 and GCSE curricula
· Monitor, assess, and track student progress, adapting teaching to meet individual needs
· Create a positive, inclusive learning environment that promotes student confidence and achievement
· Support students in overcoming barriers to learning and reaching their full potential
· Apply behaviour management strategies effectively to ensure a safe and productive classroom
Curriculum & Planning
· Develop and contribute to schemes of work and curriculum planning for English
· Create high-quality teaching resources tailored to student needs
· Support curriculum development to ensure relevance, accessibility, and engagement
· Maintain high standards of health and safety within the classroom
· Ensure resources and equipment are fit for purpose
Student Support & Safeguarding
· Work closely with the Safeguarding Lead, Welfare Officer, and SENCO to support student wellbeing
· Contribute to individual student plans and interventions
· Build strong, trusting relationships with students to support engagement and attendance
· Maintain accurate daily records on behaviour and progress
Collaboration & Wider School Contribution
· Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers, and external agencies
· Participate in meetings, reviews, and school events
· Support enrichment activities, including off-site visits and extra-curricular opportunities
· Promote and uphold the school’s policies, values, and ethos
Professional Responsibilities
· Engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice

· Maintain professionalism and high expectations at all times
Person Specification
Essential
· Degree-level qualification
· Passion for English and education
· Minimum 2 years’ teaching experience
· Strong understanding of teaching and learning strategies
· Experience working with or supporting at-risk or vulnerable students
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
· Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently
· Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
· Resilience, adaptability, and a proactive mindset
