The College and Department Epsom College is a co-educational day and boarding school with approximately 1100 pupils aged 11-18. The College is located approximately one mile from Epsom town, below Epsom Downs, in fine buildings set in a beautiful tree filled campus of some 80 acres. There are a wide range of buildings including academic, boarding houses, domestic properties, and sports facilities. The condition of the property is generally good and there is a constant programme of improvement and alterations.
The maintenance department is managed by the Estate Manager and consists of a team of staff encompassing all the trades, each of which has its own workshop. In addition to everyday repairs the department undertakes minor building works, improvements, and refurbishment throughout the College. This is a busy department and one within which everyone is expected to have a flexible attitude to their work and be prepared to work as part of a multi-disciplined team.

The workplace is set within a large and diverse community, where a cheerful and co-operative attitude is essential. As some of the work may include access to private and boarding accommodation, sensitivity and discretion are necessary qualities.
The Maintenance Electrician will be directly responsible to the Estate Manager, but on a day-to-day basis will be supervised by the Chargehand.
Overall duties and responsibilities - General Maintenance, Fault Finding, Repairs and Replacements
- Domestic and Commercial Installation Works to current standards and regulations
- Fire Alarm & Emergency Lighting Installation & Testing
- Utility Meter Readings
- Portable Appliance Testing
- Domestic Fixed Wiring Inspections
- Any other tasks reasonably required, as one who is part of a multi skilled maintenance/works team
Essential qualifications, skills, attributes and experience - Minimum NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation
- City & Guilds 2391 level 3 Inspection and Testing Electrical
- 18th Edition BS 7671 in date (or equivalent)
- Proven practical experience and skills
- Physically fit to undertake manual handling duties
- An awareness of health and safety
- Must be a team player, reliable, competent communicator with a flexible and professional approach
- An understanding and commitment to safeguarding protocols within a school environment and health and safety procedures
Terms and Condition Hours Full time 8.30am - 5pm Monday to Friday.
Salary Competitive salary offered depending on skills and experience, reviewed annually, and paid monthly in arrears on 25th of the month. Following a successful probationary period, there will also be the opportunity to join the on-call rota team with an enhanced payment of £350 per week when on-all and overtime at time and half payable.
Holidays The holiday entitlement is a total of 28 days paid holiday per annum including bank holidays increasing by 1 day per annum to a maximum of 33 days per annum following 5 years continuous service inclusive of bank holidays.
Pension The College operates the Epsom College Automatic Enrolment Scheme. The Scheme is administered by the Pensions Trust. Eligibility is based on statutory criteria. If eligible, the Employee will be required to contribute a minimum of 5% of Basic Salary and the College will contribute 4% in compliance with current legislation.
