About Us

More than a job...it's an adventure in education.

With 603 children on our roll and a gorgeous nursery provision (Pebbles Nursery) which opened in September 2021, we are a large 3-form entry primary school based in Torquay. The key to ensuring our children can succeed is having a caring, stimulating and stable environment in which to enjoy their childhood. We work hard to ensure the environment provided by our school allows every child to grow into happy, caring members of the community.

We are proud to be judged as 'a good' school by Ofsted with an outstanding nursery provision. We were last fully inspected in September 2023. To view all our Ofsted reports please click here.  The proportion of our children eligible for pupil premium is well above average and our dedicated teachers and support staff continue to develop a curriculum that inspires and prepares them for their future.

We are always looking for hardworking and ambitious professionals to help our students succeed. We and the Trust will provide all the support necessary to help you if you were to join us.

We hope that you will take the time to come and see and experience for yourself the warm and welcoming atmosphere here at Barton Hill.

Our Curriculum

At Lift Barton Hill we aim to make learning aspirational, creative and fun- we plan creative learning journeys for our children, based on what we know they need to learn, what is relevant for them, the National Curriculum and some of their own ideas and interests. The process of planning a creative, quality rich learning experience is consistent throughout the school.

We have used information in the National Curriculum and are careful to plan a high quality starting point, or focus for the creative learning journey- something real for the children to experience, often a well-planned high quality trip, exploring the local environment and beyond.

The teachers introduce the theme to the children- and get their input to be added to the web diagrams. They decide on what the final experience is going to be for the learning journey (for example- this could be an exhibition, a performance, a trip etc.)

Our curriculum map skills and the National curriculum are used as signposts along the creative learning journey to ensure continuity and progression- we use them in a cross curricular way (so for instance, letter writing might be taught through a project all about Power of reading book being studied).

Our Specialism and Awards

We hold International School Status and the Arts Mark 'gold' award for our creative curriculum.
